Township Trustee
I’m Michelle D. Bowen, a proud DuPage County native with deep roots in Wayne Township, specifically unincorporated West Chicago. I was born and raised here, attending Evergreen and Benjamin Schools before graduating from West Chicago Community High School, where I earned numerous accolades in sports, academics, and horticulture.
After high school, I pursued my passion for horticulture at the College of DuPage, earning my Associate’s Degree while playing basketball and soccer. I later graduated from Iowa State University with a Bachelor of Science in Horticulture, complementing my studies with civil engineering and landscape architecture courses.
Following graduation, I began my career at Ball Horticultural Company in West Chicago, the largest seed distribution company in the world, where I worked as Grounds Foreman and Design Specialist until 2007. Later, I ran my own in-home daycare business for about five years, allowing me to balance work and family life.
Currently, I’m a homemaker, a caregiver for my ailing father, and an active substitute teacher for Evergreen and Benjamin Schools. I’ve proudly served as a Precinct Committeeman since 2021, an Election Judge since 2020, and a dedicated member of the Wayne Township Republican Organization. I’m also deeply involved in my church, where I serve in various capacities.
I’m married to Brian, a fellow West Chicago Community High School alum and an electrician with DuPage Local Union #701. Together, we’ve raised four incredible children: Alana (23), Makena (17), Tess (14), and BJ (12). Alana has followed in my footsteps, earning her degree and now working at Ball Horticultural Company as Seed Receiving Supervisor. My family actively supports my community efforts, often joining me in parades, stuffing envelopes, serving as student election judges, and giving back to our community.
Over the years, I’ve been a dedicated volunteer at my children’s schools and have coached several park district teams in softball, basketball, and soccer. Through my church, I’ve served as an addictions counselor for the past eight years and worked as a liaison to the JUST program through DuPage County Jail, leveraging my horticultural connections to secure donations for Hope’s Garden.
As someone born and raised in unincorporated West Chicago, I bring a familiar face, trusted connections, and a deep compassion for our community. I am committed to voting in the best interests of Wayne Township residents, attending every meeting, and ensuring that our local laws reflect the needs of the community. My husband and I are invested in Wayne Township’s future, and I am determined to preserve it as a treasure for our seniors, our children, and generations to come.
Together, let’s continue building a strong, vibrant, and compassionate Wayne Township.
Warm regards,
Michelle D. Bowen
